Fagot fork
|
Fagot fork (fagot pitching fork), from Bridgehurst Farm (Trevor Simmons' collection). Fagots (or faggots), bundles of sticks bound together, were made up by the woodcutter to sell on to make the bases for corn and hay stacks or as fuel for the hop pickers. They were made into fagot stacks, hence the fagot pitching fork. Agriculture/farming.

Would be fitted to the ends of the swingletree to prevent splitting where it joined to the straps or chains connecting the collar of a harness. (Swingletree = a crossbar pivoted in the middle to the ends of which traces are fastened in a cart, plough etc.) Agriculture/farming. Transport.
