B/W postcard "Wesleyan Chapel, Marden" from south-east. white gate at right, 2 children on road in foreground, more in background. 1910. Associated m/s text "The path was not made up on right hand side and road sweepings and leaves were lumped up until removed. Allotments were in use over the hedge and later a garage built by Horace Swaffer through the gate. Now the site of Vicarage and Haffenden Close. War Auxiliary Policeman W Collins said that the Swaffer car reversed out and knocked him down and had a second go "he thought he had run up against a stone or something" before he scrambled up. The tree was a Horse Chestnut."
